It's the new and improved AMANDA page!
The roots spread wide... This will be a work in progress because I still have to upload some pictures, but at least I can tell you a bit about myself!

My childhood was quite nomadic, allowing me to be in thirteen schools between kindergarten and twelfth grade. My father was in computers when they were the new thing and then, after my parents divorced, my mom married an Army man, who continued the travelling trend. Over the years, I've lived in California (where I was born), Massachusetts, Colorado, Texas, Alabama, Rhode Island, Louisiana, Germany, and New York. I've visited most of the contiguous 48 states (most during a wild summer with my mom), England, France, Spain, Switzerland, the USSR, Canada, and Grand Cayman.
People ask me all the time if growing up all over the world was hard for me but, honestly, it's the only life I could imagine. I guess it helped me to adapt easily, be out-going, and have a good sense of humour. The downfalls are that I tend to run when things get tough and I don't have any really good lifelong friends. I guess we all just learn from what we're given. I was lucky in that my mom was always there (I haven't any siblings) and an effort was made for me to spend each summer with my grandmother in Louisiana. Those little things helped me to be grounded and not need years of therapy!
Even today, my family is spread across the US, mostly in the south. I'm closest to my mom, e-mailing her regularly and seeing her when we can. It's not the typical mother-daughter relationship, but it works for us!

The family moved to NY in 1987, when I was 16. I graduated from Penfield High School in 1989 and then headed to Buffalo for school. I got a little sidetracked there when I married but got it back together by going back to school and then divorcing in 1996. My B.S. degree is in child and youth services, which I received from Medaille College .
After receiving my degree, I returned to Rochester, where I found employment as a nanny for three children, now 9, 7, and 4. After three years with this family, I can see that it is getting to be time to move on, since they don't need me as much anymore. My next goal is to become a college admissions counselor and then, someday, run my own resume design and job placement service. Ah, goals!
When we last left our heroine...
On a personal note... It only took 27 years and how many boyfriends? before I found "the one." It was really by accident since Shawn knew me while I was dating someone else and we each thought the other wouldn't be interested. Of course, since we were already friends, he knew all the sorted details of my life, so it's a wonder he agreed to go out with me anyway!
It was one of those "you just know" things with Shawn and me. It happened quickly and at the same intensity for both of us, which is kind of scary. We've been dating almost six months now and, although people tend to not believe me when I tell them, we will be together for the long haul. It's just that, after one divorce, I want to be sure not to do that again! It'll happen, though.

If you want to contact me while I'm online, try my AIM account (AKateH) or ICQ (31439692). I'm sure we'll find something to discuss!
